ALA Girls Nation
Two delegates from ALA NM Girls State will have the honor of representing New Mexico in Washington D.C. as Senators at the American Legion Auxiliary Girls Nation program. ALA Girls Nation Senators are a select group of 100 young women from across the United States that gather to discuss bills, meet their U.S. Senators and/or staff on Capitol Hill, experience the sites and history of our nation's capital and may even get the opportunity to visit the White House and meet our President. For more information on the ALA Girls Nation Program please review the national website.
The 2023 session of American Legion Auxiliary Girls Nation will be from July 22 - 29, 2023.
Delegates will be selected through a multi stage selection process which includes being selected by staff for their stand out attitude, participation and abilities, interviewed by a board on their qualifications and opinions on current event topics, and then given time to give a speech to the entire ALA NM Girls State body and be elected by the delegates.
All expenses are paid for this trip by the Department of New Mexico American Legion Auxiliary. Delegates are expected to return to the following year's ALA NM Girls State program as a Junior Counselor staff member and share their experiences with new delegates, as well as attend an American Legion Auxiliary Department Conference to share their experiences.
The 2024 session of American Legion Auxiliary New Mexico Girls State will be from June 2 - 7, 2024.
More details will be provided at session by past ALA Girls Nation Senators.
